Enel has made available a training program on ‘Digital Sustainability’ to better understand how digital technologies guide us toward achieving the sustainable development goals of Agenda 2030. This training program aims primarily to raise awareness about responsible behaviors for those who use digital technologies, including the Gen Z. It allows us to comprehend the contribution we can make in our daily lives for sustainability through a decalogue of virtuous behaviors to mitigate and reduce the environmental impact resulting from digital usage.
- Ability to Attract and Listen to the New Generations
The Generation Z is the first entirely digital generation. They no longer view digital tools as mere instruments but as an integral part of life. Gen Z individuals have never known a world without the internet and smartphones; they are perpetually socially connected. Moreover, this generation shows a genuine interest in the fate of the planet and what future generations will encounter. They are aware of the dangers posed by global warming and the need for concrete actions to drive radical change. These young people feel personally responsible for what happens and will happen in the world, making them key actors in actions aimed at global improvement, even through small gestures.
For Generation Z, life is digital, and it is essential to be respectful of the environment and the society in which we live. Addressing two central and interesting themes for them—Sustainability and Digital—is already inherently attractive. Revealing and communicating concrete actions we can take for our Planet when using digital technologies, combining the themes of Sustainability and Digital through the decalogue for digital sustainability, allows us to actively listen and be extraordinarily appealing to Gen Z. It signifies that we have heard and responded to their real needs.
- Activation of New Generations
To activate and engage the new generations (Gen Z), who naturally use digital technologies and have developed a shared awareness of specific topics such as the environment, the decalogue of virtuous behaviors for digital sustainability, authored by Antonio Ganzerli, Head of Digital Sustainability and Circular Economy, has been published on the enel.com website in three languages (Italian, English, and Spanish). The article employs both an animated video and a tailored infographic, making it fully accessible on mobile devices. It has also been shared on social platforms (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn in the same three languages. Additionally, Antonio Ganzerli presented it at the Politecnico di Milano University and distributed it through podcasts—the preferred communication channel for Generation Z. Antonio Ganzerli also participated as an instructor in the international P-TECH project, jointly promoted with IBM. P-TECH is an educational path that guides high school students toward a three-year degree, equipping them with digital skills for the job market. During this program, he addressed behaviors related to the use of digital technologies, presenting the decalogue and Considering the things we can do in our daily lives for sustainability.
